Frans Greenwood (1680-1763) is credited with a new way to engrave glass. About 1729, in
a town near Rotterdam, he developed the diamond-stipple method. The engraver used a
diamond-point to tap against the glass. By doing this, he made a design composed entirely
of little dots, varying the spacing to create patterns, a subtle (and perhaps tedious!) method.
