This point on West Quoddy Head is the easternmost point in the continental United States.
The lighthouse was built in 1858 and is still an active navigation aid. It has a third order
Fresnel lens and is one of eight Maine lighthouses still using Fresnel lenses. The US Coast
Guard maintains and operates the light and an associted foghorn, but the surrounding property
is a Maine state park and some site maintenance is handled by a volunteer group.
