On 07 May 2005 we visited a daylily garden during their open house. It was an absolutely beautiful spring day. While it was too early for the daylilies to be in bloom, there were dozens of beds containing all sorts of other plants in bloom — miniature iris, daffodils, and all manner of flowering ground cover. The owners claim to have approximately 1500 varieties of daylily on the grounds and propagate and sell nearly 300 varieties. The property sits high in the rolling countryside with marvelous views.
A modest walking distance up the road, an artist was having an open studio. She and her husband live in a fantastic setting, a perfect spot for an artist. Long time residents, they have built up lush plantings of many varieties of rhododendron and azaleas, as well as many other perennials and ground cover plants. Dogwoods scattered along through this relatively wooded area were in fine form too.
