The Pennsylvania Endless Mountains Fiber Festival 2013
This was the tenth annual event, held in the fairgrounds at Harford, Pennsylvania, a short distance west of Interstate-81 above Scranton. While not nearly as large as the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival seen elsewhere in these galleries, this was a nice small event with quite a few vendors from northeastern Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York state. Much of the fiber was hand dyed and there was an abundance of fiber, including alpaca, angora rabbit and some unusual sheep breeds, already spun into yarn. There was a fair amount of hand crafted fiber articles, and a few vendors offering restored/rebuilt wheels and an occasional loom. An assortment of exotic fleeces were on hand too.
There were a couple of sheep herding demonstrations using border collies. There were presentations on various relevent activities such as care and harvesting of fiber from rabbits, unraveling and reusing yarn from a sweater, sheep shearing, spinning and "Llamas & Alpacas 101."
The food vendor assortment was small but had some good stuff. One was a very maple oriented outfit (lots of maple sugaring in upstate Pennsylvania) that had a maple milkshake which Ye Olde Photographer found quite nice.
