This year's event appeared to be accidental, but a few of us got our Argus cameras out for some shooting. The morning was rainy and Ye Olde Photographer had some stuff to attend to, but as the afternoon brightened up he loaded the venerable C-3 with Ilford FP4 Plus. The Ilford product is a modest nominal speed of 125, a B&W film of more traditional grain structure and unlike Acros and Ektar, available in 24 exposure rolls so as not to tax YOP's aging attention span.
Ye Olde Photographer needs to plan better; this was the second year in a row that featured more driving than photography, but at least the total distance was much less. We warmed up with a few shots around the house, then ended up finishing the roll at Green Lane Park, a Montgomery County Pennsylvania facility with a variety of lakes, woods, streams and hills.
We skipped two frames along the way after not remembering whether we wound after an exposure and not wanting to take a chance; a normal hazard with this extremely manual camera. Unfortunately, we failed to wind one that needed it and two shots were lost to a double exposure. And then we managed to screw up the rewind process! (One could check that the wind knob on the top of the camera has stopped turning, but Noo-O-O, that would be too easy.) So YOP popped the back open, saw a strip of film across the inside and slammed the back shut. To his relatively pleasant surprise, that only cost about six frames, one of which was a blank anyway.
So, it was a bit lackluster, but below we see a selection of the surviving Argust 13th shots. The film was developed in Kodak HC110, Dilution H (1+63 for 16 minutes at 68ºF. The negatives were scanned with a PrimeFilm 3650u and YOP suspects some grain aliasing. One of these days we'll try an optical print or two. The "official" submissions from multiple participants appear at the Argus Collectors Group site.
