More Faces

A complete lack of cohesion, the only thing these pictures have in common is a human subject. The first four photos remain in my memory so well because they represent the adaptation to foreign tourism that so many traditional African tribes have made. Who's Exploiting Who was taken during a "visit" to a Masai Mara tribe in Tanzania. Plainly stated, it was a show, a practical circus. A skit put on every 15 minutes for white-shirted safari goers. 'I'll give you what you want' - money - 'If you give me what I want' - 'a show and a picture'. Out of the moss of women pushing you to buy things, dirty children singing for donations, and the men telling you to take pictures of them, there was one woman who sat disconnected beneath a nearby tree. Her entire spirit looked sad and depleted. She was the only one not acting. Maybe I read her wrong, but the idea still makes me think that she, or anyone else in this world living in a cage - self made or enforced - simply goes on with the same, every day, relentlessly trying to "get ahead". Im officially off my soap box now...just look at the pictures!
