This ride was called "The Scrambler" . The name appears on the crosspiece just above the girls' knees. When I was 11 and at the fair early one day, a guy asked me if I wanted to work so I said sure. I was tall for my age and must have looked 16 to him( at the time I think it was required that any "carny" had to be 16 ). So for a few hours I would open and close the locking crosspiece and generally assist the riders on and off, break for lunch, then back at it for another few hours. A dollar an hour plus some lost change inevitably found at the base of any ride. My ego was soaring. 1966 and 7 dollars in pocket. They only needed me the one day . Boy, did I feel cool!
