In an interview Stahelski was asked about his plans for the fifth film in the series "John Wick the production of that is going on for a long time. In our heads, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We should take a break and give John Wick a break," the director responded.

The actor continued by saying, "I'm sure the studio has plans. If everybody loves it, then we'll take some time to rest. 'John Wick' always, for some strange reason, has the latest news on its release in Japan.

''Keanu and I will take the long trip to Tokyo, take a couple of 20-year-old whiskeys and sketch some thoughts on napkins. If those ideas stick and we can make an animated film," Stahelski said of a possible fifth installment of "John Wick."

In August of 2020, it was confirmed that the fifth film of ''John Wick'' was being developed, and that it would begin production shortly after the completion of "John Wick: Chapter 4''.




In March 2021, however, Lionsgate stopped production on chapter five of ''John Wick choosing to simply continue with the fourth chapter. Stahelski talked about why it was decided to not make both films simultaneously and just focus on ''John Wick: Chapter 4 Chapter 4''. "I didn't feel right doing 4 and 5 together," director Stahelski said explaining that doing so would require a grueling 200 production days.
