Once Linda is down, Lee and I will each thread one side of the rope through our belay devices, unclip our slings from the chains, and then slide down simultaneously. We have to match our speed and friction on the rope, because it's simply looped through the chains in the middle. We can't tie it, or we wouldn't be able to pull it through and get it back after we reach the ground. This is the first time either Lee or I have used this technique. Usually we go down one at a time, using both ends of the rope as Linda did, but going together gets us down more quickly.
