Day 1: Journey to Another World

On the first day of our trip we flew from Phoenix to Bozeman by way of Salt Lake City, where we met up with Meg. (Meg flew to SLC from Denver.) So we were able to fly to Bozeman together. We then drove our rental car to West Yellowstone but took the slightly longer, less-traveled, road past Quake Lake. It turned out to be an interesting route: Quake Lake (formally, Earthquake Lake) is the site of an historic 7.5 earthquake in 1959 that literally changed the landscape of the area. Along the way we stopped for a delightful lunch at the Sportsman's Lodge in Ennis, MT. We capped our long day with dinner at the Branch Restaurant in West Yellowstone, MT.
