Beautiful Sedona | Historic La Posada

Historic La Posada

On Sunday morning, we drove north on AZ 89A to Flagstaff, where we enjoyed a tasty lunch at the Lumberyard Brewing Company. From there, it's a 60 mile drive east on I-40 to Winslow and the historic La Posada Hotel. This grand hotel, designed in the 1920's by famed architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, was the finest of the Fred Harvey railroad hotels in the southwest. In the mid-1990's, La Posada was rescued from demolition by the Santa Fe Railroad by Allan Affeldt, who purchased the property after three years of negotiations. He and his wife, artist Tina Mion, and third partner Daniel Lutzick now operate and continue to restore this magnificent hotel. We enjoyed viewing Tina's artwork that is displayed throughout the hotel, including a gallery of her paintings in the "Tina Mion Museum". We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the hotel's award-winning Turquoise Room restaurant. We also had a yummy breakfast there on Monday morning. After checking out of La Posada and vowing to return before long, we took a leisurely drive home to Tempe via scenic AZ Highway 87 (the "Beeline Highway").
