Horseshoe-shaped Shoshone Falls is over 1000 feet wide and 212 high -- higher than Niagara. There had been talk of turning the "Niagara of the West" into a national park. But in 1902, a court judgement settled a lawsuit in favor of diverting much of the water from the Snake River for irrigation, and that was that. Agriculture is a major industry in this area of Idaho, which is known as the "Blue Lake" district. This is where "Blue Lake" green beans are grown. |
