On May 6, 2011, Go AZ Motorcycles held the grand opening of their new location on Hayden Road in north Scottsdale. The event featured demo rides on new motorcycles, featuring the BMW K1600GTL. It was a perfect opportunity for me to ride several models that I was curious about. Thanks to Go AZ for hosting this fun event! The first bike I rode was the Ducati Diavel Carbon. With its 162 HP 1198cc L-twin motor and its gigantic 240-section rear tire, low seat and stretched-out ergonomics, this bike is a cross between a cruiser and a superbike. Although this bike isn't quick to turn in, its handling is quite stable and it has a great motor. Next, I rode the K1600GTL. Its 1649cc in-line six is silky smooth, the bike is quite comfy and it handles very well for its size. But it's just way too big for me! I guess this answers the question, "Is it time to consider a battle cruiser class touring bike for me and Judy?" NOPE! I suspect that time is never! Then, I rode the amazing BMW S1000RR. Flat out the fastest bike I've ever ridden! I was surprised by how quickly I felt comfortable on this bike. Its extreme power, sharp handling and amazing brakes make for an intoxicating package. Riding one of these on the street would be hazardous to one's driver's license! Finally, I wandered around the parking lot, snapping photos of some interesting customer bikes. On the ride home, I was happy to be riding my trusty Ducati 900SP. It's still my all-time favorite! |
