This is the North American Nebula (NGC 7000). Wait ... are you sure? Something doesn't look right ...
OK, yes, I'm sure. Images of this nebula are usually presented rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise from this one. Go ahead, rotate your head 90 degrees clockwise, and you will see it - Canada, the United States, Mexico and Central America.
The photos that comprise this image were taken on the night of 22-Sep-2022, on my second night out with a new telescope, a William Optics FluoroStar 91. On the previous night I didn't get around to attaching a camera, with so much to learn about the new WO FluoroStar. On this night I did get the camera attached, but somehow it ended up rotated 90 degrees, which I didn't realize until I processed the images on the next morning.
Then, my 22 year old deep cycle battery died - not the telescope's fault, for sure. But my imaging session was cut short by an hour or more. I only acquired 28 three minute exposures of NGC 7000 before the power shut down. Nevertheless, I'm presenting this image, and I don't think it's too bad considering the challenges involved.
And oh, yes, I like the William Optics FluoroStar 91 a lot so far.
