Rarely do I take lunch, let alone leave the comfort of my office when I am not traveling. I took a quick ride out to the farmstead for a brief but much needed visit with my farmer friend this afternoon. As always the ride out was welcome. Cruising along the state route seeing fields being harvested, and orchards being picked to a state of barren trees as I had music playing and enjoyed the time with no email or text messages. Lost in thought of today and a future with less time on this very road saddens me. Pushing down the gloom and pressing down on the gas pedal found me passing the landmarks that have guided me here for 20 years now.

As always, the conversations are entertaining and with a hint of teaching me something new. I always come away a smarter and better man for spending time here!

After leaving to head back to work, I put the urban, suburban, mall crawler Yukon in 4 x 4 and took a tour of the back fields. Off road, mud on the tires and a south east wind howling, tearing off the last of the leaves from my favorite tree... I got out for a few minutes of absolute solitude and grabbed a handful of the dirt I was standing in feeling it in my hands reminding me again how blessed I am at having this safe harbor to come to.

Yeah, I made the most out of todays lunch hour.
