Fort Negley

Fort Negley is located approximately 2 miles south of downtown Nashville. It was the largest inland fort built during the Civil War. Shortly after the war, the fort was abandoned and fell into ruin. In the 1930s the WPA made a major restoration of the fort. What exists today is a combination of the original fortification and the WPA restoration. The main gate was not a part of the original fort - it was built as part of the WPA restoration.
