Khartoum (the capital of SUDAN) lies at the junction of both Niles - the White Nile and the Blue Nile which form the river Nile which flows to the north through Egypt to reach the Mediterranian Sea.
The White Nile originates from the great lakes in Uganda and is calm, the Blue Nile originates from Ethyobia Heights and is strong and vigourous. Khartoum with about 5 million inhabitants in the last few years is rapidly becoming a modern city.
