This is how they go. The split ring goes against the exhaust port on the head, beveled side out. The solid collar goes next, beveled side against the split ring and flat side out. The finned nut goes on last.

Do NOT reinstall exhaust nuts for storage on the heads. Do not switch nuts from one side to the other. Leave on headers for duration of work.
