Paperweight

The centre of a spherical blown glass paperweight. This is one of my favourite macro subjects, but, since I don't yet have a macro lens for my V1 (Canon 250D on the way from Santa), I used a cheap large magnifier in front of the lens in this case. Due to the deep, 3D character of this pattern, only a small slice of the pattern near the centre is in sharp focus.

What looks like a border isn't really a border. The paperweight is a solid glass ball, frosted all around except for a small clear concaved window, displaying the interior colored 3D blown glass artwork. What appears to be a border is the edge of the frosted exterior around the clear window.

Great colours and sharpness Jerry, there is much to explore in your image as well. Great entry to the challenge even though I'm not to fond of the circular border you've choosen. I wonder how the original without border looks like. Still one of my favorites though!

Thanks for the comments, folks. It *is* the Canon 250D I was talking about - the close-up lens, not the DSLR. I will probably eventually go for a DSLR, having some experience with film SLRs. But, at present, the V1 satisfies most of my needs, and is very convenient.

I like the colors and tones in this one, and those paperweights are also fun for me to see. I've thought of shooting them before, but I don't have any lying around. My favorite things to look for lately have been in nature. You did a good job with that magnifign glass, but don't you mean you're getting the Canon 350D for Christmas?
