There are two well-known mountains seen along the main drive through our county.
The name Tamalpais comes from the coastal Miwok (native americans) and means "west hill" and there are myths of
the "sleeping maiden" as from certain angles the mountain looks like a woman asleep.
Wikipedia states that Mt. Tam is "often considered symbolic of Marin County" and its outline is used in quite a few logos around the county.
