These black ducks have the most unusual bills.
This fine fellow floated by today fairly close to shore at Aquatic Park in San Francisco Bay.

Although I know that Alaska is their Summer breeding habitat, this is a duck variety that I've never seen myself. They must be interesting to watch in real life. He kind of looks like a cross between a Coot & a short billed Shoveler. You always find the best photo opts in the San Francisco area.
