Week #3 - vacant house
by epickett

This is the front of the house that Debbie wanted to see. I haven't posted a week 1 or 2 yet, but this is week three... :-)

I love old, abandoned homes and buildings. They have a sense of character. This style home always makes me think that it's staring at me, though - the windows at the top look like eyes. I hope someone buys it and fixes it up.

I do like this and am so glad you shared this side of the house with us too. I love the shape and character of the house. Nicely shot with you phone too, Eldred. It is sad to see things get abandoned and run down. Maybe it will someday be restored - but in any case, you've now preserved it's memory if it does end up getting completely destroyed. ;)

What a shame that this nice house lies abandoned. It looks like it was once quite lovely. Interesting architecture right down to the façade around the front door. I wonder if someone could maybe fix it up again.

Here there is a program to revitalize old neighborhoods - with the city selling abandoned houses like this for just $1. The purchasers must be willing to put their time & money into repairs and then later live in the old house for a certain period of time. So far this seems to be successful in helping to improve old neighborhoods. These $1 homes are in high demand. Some decaying older neighborhoods have even been given new life.

Because the front steps don't seem to be totally overgrown, this house couldn't have been abandoned for long. It may just be waiting for the right family to give it some TLC. The roof and siding don't look in totally disastrous shape. From your other photo, this looks like it might be nice neighborhood. Hopefully, this old, vacant house can find someone to love her.
