The beginning "New Life" was the green beneath the two bronze leaves. I didn't want the green pod totally blurred into background nothingness. By by itself, the pod is kind of boring. Thus, I went with f/18 with main focus on the new leaves above. Although I tried, I still couldn't get enough DOF to properly capture both leaves and pod as I wanted. If I hadn't been obsessed with going for the leaves AND the pod. I definitely would have used a lower f/stop for better bokeh. Oh well. Win some; lose some.

Since DPF has been so slow, I felt that this photo was still "good enough" for me to be able to contribute something to the Challenge to fill the slack. One minute I kind of like the uniqueness of the texture of the dirt background. The next moment I don't. Either way, I'm glad I experimented with my newest lens.

They look shiny and new for sure. I think I would have preferred F2.8 to eliminate the background.

Cool shot, Liz. I like how the leaves are sort of pointing in opposite directions, and the colors are unexpected. Usually one things of "green" for new, instead of that pretty brownish amber. An interesting choice of settings, with the iso 4000, and f/18. You're getting to know your macro well, it looks like. :)

I like this. The way you shot it with the leaves not quite cutting the picture in half and the blurred background really makes the new leaves stand out.
