Your dragon is a skimmer. It looks like a 12 spotted skimmer, but it doesn't have the 12 spots - so it may be related if it was taken out west. I am using Dennis Paulson's Dragonflies and Damselflies of the East. Beautiful shot. When you are photographing these insects, stand very still and observe for a while - dragons and damsels are territorial and even if they leave because you startle them, they will return. They are exothermic and need heat for maximum activity. They will also get used to you. So 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then the rush to feed before sunset are good times.
