This tree was growing out of a high spot in The Potholes (a geological formation, Shelburne Falls, MA). It somehow held root in the rock through spring floods when it constantly seemed it would be ripped from it's shallow soil. It has persisted. Change in story -- it did not persist through the flooding during the fall of 2006. It's gone. But I still have the picture; I love photography!
