The fifteen star flag was also the only American flag to have
fifteen stripes. The last two stripes and stars were added when
Vermont (14th state) and Kentucky (15th state) were added to the
union. Later, the stripes were reduced to 13 (one for each of the
original 13 colonies) and the stars respresent the number of states.
