After lunch, we decided to make the long trip over the mountain
to the Cherokee reservation. Prior to leaving, we stopped at the Welcome
Center for maps. There we learned that the flurries we had at our cabin the
night before was more significant at higher elevations. Three inches of snow
fell on the mountains overnight. According to the park rangers, the road
was currently open but that could change.
