Artist's Note: No, Of course I didn't put the stick there!
(Actually Charles Darwin brought it with him: A JOKE: you'll know wot I mean in a few shots' time!
Simple compositions of strong shapes, tones and placement of "lines": without the distraction of colour, one starts to get a feel through trial and error: be free to try and fail: failure is good: Failure is used in engineering to test the extant strength of a material...not its uselessness!
I chose a vertical format here, why?
A = It's unusual: thus you have already engaged the viewer's attention. I use "lines" here to draw the eye into the shot, inviting the viewer to walk into and FULLY AROUND the shot. In the vertical format I feel I can convey an entry of MORE DEPTH by the viewer: there's more "back to front space" in the shot to walk to and fro in.
(If you like, I can provide a DETAILED AESTHETIC ANALYSIS on why this shot works..ie, why it is an excellent composition: I'm not blowing my trumpet at all: it merely conforms to received, developed wisdom obediently, is all. Just ask and I'll get it to you.)
