4-08 Right on cue...I walk in....the male takes off. |
This female is possibly 10 years old, according to the blue color band on her leg. |
The male flies by with something and takes it to a light pole to the north. I thought it was a fish. |
When he finally came in to the nest, I did see that what he was carrying was a corn stalk. |
He's actually going to come down and drop it off?? |

 The Dynamic Duo |
And as fast as it took you took look at the previous shot to this one....he left. |
 Yep, I'm outta here! |
Got some fishin' to do.... |
4-07 Both birds to the east of the puddle, sitting on a favorite perch that they fish from. |
The female is very tolerant of us this year. I was able to get close enough to see the color of the band. |
It is determined that this bird may have been banded in 1996 in Michigan because of the blue color band. |
4-6-06 Okay, bad light and same as usual. He came in right as I was walking in. Left just as quickly as he came in. |
Shortly after that the female took off and headed to the south. Thats where he went before that. |
He flew pretty far out to the south and perched with a fish. He never did return back to the nest while I was there. |
After awhile she came back in. She had a stick in her foot and proceeded to "arrange the furniture". |
4-05-06 The male was also around but he never came in close to the nest. |
She ended up taking off and flying to the north the same way he did. |
The female seems more tolerant of us than the male. Sometimes he refuses to come in while we are there. |
4-4-06 The female is hovering over the puddle. There were lots of little fish jumping today. |
I was very surprised that she hovered as long as she did right in front of me. |
4-01-06 There is a "puddle" as we call it to the south of the nest and this is one of their favorite places to perch and hunt. |
 Both birds returned "home". |
Oh no, not you two again! |
This is the same female from previous years. She has a silver and colored band on her legs. |
 Refurbishing the nest. |
You can see the silver US Fish & Wildlife band on her right leg. |
The male was also flying around with a stick but he never brought his in while we were there. |
 |
The female is identified by her brown "necklace". |
She also brought in dried grasses and mud to line the nest with. |
We were amazed to see her come in with huge clumps of material in both feet. |
