Becka is a female American Kestrel. She weighs just 6-7 oz. It is believed that she is over 12 years of age.
She came to the Feather in spring of 1992. She had been shot with a pellet gun in the left shoulder and suffered damage to both her muscle and tendons in that area. She can only fly about 15 feet before falling to the ground. When she was rescued, her mate was circling over head calling to her. She had a nest somewhere and while the rescuers attempted to find it, in hopes of saving her eggs or young, they could not.
She does have a mate, Bullet, in her cage at the Feather. She nests every spring but her eggs are not fertile. She and Bullet have fostered many young kestrels and continue to still do so.
