7. While I prefer black or white backgrounds, you can shoot coins on anything including colors I find objectionably bright. It is generally easier to shoot on black or white and replace the background using postprocessing programs. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements but there are many others that work including some freeware options that can be downloaded online.
