Image stacking software (Here I used CombineZM) was invented for use with microscopes but can be used whenever you have a static subject and want more depth of field than you can get in normal ways. My example was shot at f/11. Each of the three left images was focused on a different plane of the tilted coin. The right image is the result of software combining the sharpest part of each original. It would seem great for shooting modern coins with lettered edges or fake ancients with tell tale edge problems, The coin I grabbed for this shot is neither.
