The Audubon Society designates this as an Important Birding Area. It is about fifty miles south of Wilcox, AZ near the town of Elfrida. It is particularly spectacular because it is the winter home of over 20,000 Sand Hill Cranes. Each day about 11:00 AM, the cranes return in swarms from their morning feeding in nearby fields. It is a sight to behold as the sky becomes covered with birds at every level and the noise rises to the level of a cacophony. It is something everyone should see once in their lifetime. There are also many other birds to be seen here especially waterfowl and shorebirds.
