Brown-cheeked Rosy Finch (Leucosticte tephrocotis tephrocotis)

Mendenhall Lake Peninsula

This sub-species of Rosy Finch is normally found in the Interior of Alaska and the Yukon. There are a pair on the peninsula near Mendenhall Glacier and they have now been documented by several local birders and photographers. This is a fun opportunity to see this rare bird here in the Juneau area. These two birds have been in the same area for the past 10 days.
