Arctic Tern hovering

Mendenhall Glacier area

Arctic terns are one of the few birds that can hover. They do what is called a step hover, they start high, maybe 30 feet up, hover then drop about 10 feet into another hover, then drop again before plunging in after their prey which in this case is small fish.

other sizes: small medium original auto
