Built in 1861 in a Syrian style of decoration, though I was informed the iconostasis was imported from Turkey (Kilis) by christians that fled from there. The bisshop's throne was built for the church.

From a site about its damage I quote: The Greek Orthodox Church of the Dormition of Our Lady (Al Sayde) is located in the Old City of Aleppo, next to the Forty Martyrs’ Armenian Cathedral and the old St Elijah’s Maronite Cathedral and the current Zarehian Treasury. Built in 15th century, the church was was damaged during the earthquake of 1822 and renovated afterwards. The church was home to many valuable icons of the famous Aleppine school. The Dormition of Our Lady Church was frst hit in September 2012. During the military campaign in Aleppo the church received further pummeling. According to Fr. Ghassan Ward, the parish priest, it was hit by mortar shells on more than 30 occasions. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo and Alexandretta, which extends across Syria and Turkey, suffered greatly loosing several churches – and its Metropolitan, Boutros Yazigi was kidnapped together with the Syriac Orthodox archbishop.
