This is the mosque of Sinan Paşa (Jamia al-Sinaniye). This is not the Sinan who was the famous Ottoman architect, but a governor of Damascus. The mosque dates from 1591, and originally the complex contained also a hammam, a school and market. It has a green-enamelled minaret. The monumental entrance has fine tiles in a style that reminded me of Turkish “Iznik” but was made locally.
A piece of Iznik style tiles.
