I treat Turhal and Zile in one main gallery, but for Zile people it may be nice to find their city in a (sub)gallery of its own.

Zile is the other city I present here, some 20 kilometres from Turhal. In a book I have it is claimed Zile may go back to Hittite times and be none other that Anziliya (because of the similarity in name), it certainly is the Roman Zela. Digs indicate it has been almost continuously inhabited from the third millennium BC. Its main claim to fame is that nearby, along the road to Amasya, Julius Caesar won the battle in 47BC on which he reported “veni, vidi, vinci” (I came, saw, conquered). The city has some very nice neighbourhoods with lots of old houses, and has in my eyes a bit more of a character of its own than Turhal. You will find no pictures this time of Ulu Camii (Big Mosque) or similar: not very impressive, and at least at the Ulu a flock of children kept me occupied. In 2018 I found a set of slides that I had not shown before, I scanned and edited them, and add them now to my Zile collection. There is a small chance that some are from Turhal (that I visited on the same occassion), if you notice that, please write a comment.

Zile, Turhal’dan 20 km uzaklıkta, burada gösterdiğim diğer şehir. Bendeki bir kitapta, Zile’nin geçmişinin Hitit zamanına dek gidiyor olabileceği ve isim benzerliğinden dolayı aslında Roma Zela’sı olan Anziliya şehri olabileceği iddia ediliyor.
