Zelve mosque

A text explains: The only mosque in Zelve is partly hewn out of the rock and partly built using cut stones. It’s mihrab is carved into the bedrock. It’s minaret is in a baldachin style with four columns and pointed top. This kind of minaret is often seen in mosques from the early Ottoman Period. Right opposite the mosque is the square used by the villagers of Zelda until 1952. Houses either carved into the rock or built using cut stones are located around the square. Above those are the pigeon houses. This large sloping area was the location where the people of Zelve gathered together for religious feasts and weddings. However, due to the increase in the erosion and some rocks posing a danger the people of Zelve were evacuated from the area.
