Gymnasium

The Gymnasium is a large structure built near the northern wall to the southwest of the northern city gate. It has a rectangular plan facing north-south. In 1977 excavations in Stratonicea began. So far the north side has been exposed, with a narrow façade of 105 meters. The total length of the building is estimated to be 180 m making it the largest known gymnasium in antiquity.
Relevant evidence indicate it was built in the 2nd quarter of the 2nd century BC, during Augustan and Antonine new arrangements and reconstructions were made.
As there are few pictures on the web anyhow I show more than usual, including all pictures I used to prepare some panoramic pictures.
