Silivri Kapı aka Gate of the Spring

Silivri Gate (Silivri Gate) is located to the north of Belgrade Gate. It underwent extensive restoration during both the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, and also at the end of the last century. In Byzantine sources it is referred to as the Source / Spring gate. A holy spring was nearby. The gate, along with the neighborhood behind it, was severely damaged in the earthquake called Kıyâmet-i Suğra (Little Apocalypse) that occurred in 1509. It was repaired by Bayezid (1481-1512). Today, only the empty frame of the inscription mounted at the front entrance as a memory of this process is visible.
