The Myra theatre is, as so often, partly dug into the hill. It could seat almost 11.500 people and is in good repair, of Roman design, and has a diameter of 108 meters, thus being bigger than mother Lycian theatres. Part of the seats on either side rest on semicircular vaults, that can be visited, always a delight. Similarly a vault at the upper side still stands. 30 rows of seats and 14 stairways supplied easy access. In the upper part 8 of originally 13 rows of seats remain. In the Late Roman Period changes were made to the orchestra pit to be able to organize gladiatorial fights.
Note some pictures have "Demre"in their name: the modern town to which Myra belongs.
