I regularly receive messages from – mainly – Americans who were stationed at Incirlik airbase near Adana. First a message to them: Your e-mail address is visible to me only, if you feel others should see it, put the address in the message itself, not (just) where the program asks for it and don’t mark it as Private. They appreciate the pictures I have shown of nowadays Adana, often remarking how that city has changed. It sure has, and still does. In September 2008 I had an afternoon to spare in Adana and decided to take a look at Incirlik itself. I went there together with a friend who had earlier that year been my guide visiting some castles in the area, and overall helped me a lot in finding my way around. I was carrying my new Nikon D3, and had a D2x to spare, so on some pictures you will see this friend in action with my equipment, and exceptionally I also show a few pictures he took. He had been a pupil at a school you will see at the end of the series, by the way. I could not take pictures of the base itself (the one time I pointed my tele into that direction a whistle was blown at me from an observation tower). Instead we took some pictures inside the shops lining the main street, some of them run by Turks with a sound American twang, and selling peculiarly American goods. The pictures make no pretence of doing more than – hopefully – show places the former stationees recognize and were fond of. And of course Incirlik people may like them.
