The small town is still largely rural, and offers little prospect of prosperity. This is reflected in the official counts of the city’s population: 3600 (in 1985), 3281 (in 2000) and 2890 (in 2010). During the same period, the nearby provincial capital of Eskişehir (40 km away) counted respectively 366.800 (in 1985), 482.000 (in 2000) and 632.000 inhabitants (in 2010).
