I was informed that my original interpretation of what This is Lusavoriç Armenian Church, a copy of the Echmiadzin, built in the seventh century and one of the masterpieces of ancient Armenian architecture. The older church, which was pulled down to widen the street was an early nineteenth century construction of no great architectural interest, but it contained some unusual tiles from the Tefkur Saray kilns; these have been transferred to the crypt of the present church.
I advise people to use a search enigine and look up Echmiadzin, it's gorgeous.
