Mudurnu062007 7357.jpg

The ‘Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Camii’ (Mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent) is the second historic mosque of Mudurnu. It lies west of the 'Yıldırım Camii'. In the absence of a building inscription, dating it is somewhat hazardous; if the oral tradition is right, it should be between 1520 and 1566.

On the picture: the porch (in this mosque: also the ‘son cemaat yeri’) and the entrance to the prayer hall.

Most cami (= Friday mosque) have a ‘son cemaat yeri’ (= ‘area for those who came late’), where worshippers who reached the mosque late or at the last moment, will gather and fulfill their prayer duty. This area can be placed under the porch on the north side of the mosque, or in a lobby between the entrance and the prayer hall.
