Nemrut 2006 09 1543.jpg

The head of Heracles-Artagnes-Ares, on the west terrace. The multiple names of the god indicate his syncretic nature: Greek and Persian (Artagnes being derived from the Avestan name Verathragna, a deity ‘giver of Victory’).

Correspondent: J.M.Criel, Antwerpen.
