This is a monument for a large group of soldiers that were killed in an ambush. The area is quitter now, but has seen an awful lot of violence due to terrorism. I came across the name of the city first in an article in my newspaper mentioning this or a similar feat, and soon noticed that I saw the mention of terrorist attacks more often. Things have cooled down a lot, but still the roads to and from the city are guarded heavily.

During the attack 33 people were killed on the road to Elazığ, noncommissioned officers as well as soldiers. If you can read Turkish better than I can, the whole message is on the notice on my previous picture.
