I am not sure since I am still surfing but I think this is a fertility rite. What makes me think that is the table before the couple, the triangle formed by the table legs which also describes an 'X' may be a reference to the small copper statuettes that were found at a much earlier period, across their breast was such an 'X' and they represented fertility . So this must represent a marriage rite.
