Since the restyling along the river has such an impact on the looks of the city I started with a walk along the part that had been done.
I was told - while I sat in the sun on one of the terraces along the river - that formerly traffic would have tried to run me over, now it was a pedestrian zone. A great improvement, no doubt.
The canalized and rearranged zone along the Porsuk River, between the bridges of Atatürk Caddesi and Köprübaşı is called ‘Adalar’ (= the islands). It acts as an open park in the center of town, with tens of sidewalk cafés, bars and restaurants.
